Erin McHugh is a former publishing executive and author of more than twenty books of trivia, history, children’s stories and more. Though she has always understood the value of service to her community, in recent years, her work as a bookseller and other every day events have kept her too busy to devote as much time as she would have liked to community service. Then one day she learned a distant relative was actually going to be canonized. Was this a sign? What followed next was McHugh’s sincere urge to recapture a sense of charity, and so she set out on her birthday to do one good deed every day for an entire year. Maybe she wouldn’t be saving orphans from burning buildings, but she wanted to take one small, daily detour and make someone else’s life just a little bit better. One Good Deed is the inspiring, smart, and frequently funny chronicle of that year, in which each page represents a day in McHugh’s journey to reclaim the better part of herself, inspiring readers to do the same.

Lisa Bonchek Adams, known to 4630 of her Twitter followers as "ADAMS LISA" - cancer blogger and creator of the popular weekly-nag-to-make-overdue-medical-appointments hashtag "Monday Pleads." Lisa began writing about her experiences as a wife and young mother of three with cancer over five years ago when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer. The overwhelming response to those Facebook posts led to her blog, where thousands of people have found her writing about living with cancer to be enormously helpful. While readers may have been drawn to the information and advice she provided about cancer treatment options and health maintenance -- they stayed for something even more meaningful and universally relevant: her brutally honest posts about what it was like to confront mortality at an early age, cope with feelings of aimlessness, fear, and despair, and be unwilling to sugarcoat the truth. In a world where cancer is often pitched as a happy pink gift to be grateful for, Lisa's blogs and tweets remind the sick and the healthy that sadness and grief are as important to treat during cancer as the cancer itself. This fall, we were shocked and heartbroken to hear that Lisa's cancer had metastasized to her bones and that she's now receiving treatment for stage 4 cancer. Almost immediately, a WE LOVE LISA ADAMS Facebook page was set up to let her know each and every day that the huge community of people she's helped over the years are now here to help her.
