Merrill Markoe

Merrill Markoe is the 4-time Emmy award-winning television writer, New York Times-bestselling author, and brilliant creator of "Stupid Pet Tricks," Stupid Human Tricks, and Viewer Mail.
Merrill is one of those writers who started out doing a whole other kind of art: painting. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a master's in visual art, and while teaching art at USC, she audited writing classes and began doing research for the head writer of "Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman." She then became head writer for the The David Letterman Show when it was still just a morning show on NBC (where she won her first Emmy), and eventually worked on "Late Night With David Letterman", sharing in 3 Emmys for outstanding writing.

In addition to her new, hilarious book, Cool, Calm, and Contentious, she's written three other collections of humorous essays as well as four novels. She lives in LA and has four dogs.

We hope you will be able to hear Merrill over our laughter.
